Virtual Fashion Camp?

This is evidence that we're moving rapidly into the future with our knowledge of technology. Since I had my epiphany and changed my career path to fashion, I've wanted to attend fashion camp in New York City. Just to go to New York City is one of my greatest dreams! Recently, through my Twitter followings, I stumbled upon Virtual FashionCampNYC. "Virtual?" I asked myself, "What on earth could this be?" So I checked it out. Virtual FashionCampNYC is a fashion camp geared toward 8th through 12th graders who want to learn more about the industry. Some of us simply do not have the money to fly to New York City and attend fashion camp which would include a base fee plus room and board. The way the economy is now, the concept is perfect. Until July 28th, the cost to attend Virtual FashionCampNYC is $149. After, the price goes back up to $199. With this price, you get unlimited access to:

Previous FashionCampNYC lectures

10 hours of private broadcasts

Hands-on assignments you can complete right at home

Techniques to help you enhance your skills in the industry

From August 2nd to the 6th, all you need is a laptop/computer and connection and you can access FashionCampNYC from anywhere! With this program, it's not just all watching. There is some involvement included in the package as well. As a camper, you can share your talent in return for feedback from professionals, connect with individuals who can help you with internships and jobs, and learn ways to get yourself in the fashion industry! Sounds exciting, right?

Also with looking into the virtual program, I took a look at the actual NYC program at LIM, and I wish programs like FashionCampNYC would expand to other major cities. I would love to experience something like this firsthand and I know other girls would as well. However at nearly $1300 for the New York program against $199 for the online program, I think the online program wins. Until then, this experience seems to be a great one and I encourage you to register.

Top 10 Fall Trends of 2010

1. Detailed Shoulders -- Tops with embellished shoulders add to plain solid-colored top. Be bold! Bubble Petal Sleeve Top from Forever 21 ($19.80)

2. Blazers -- It's fall once again, and the blazers are back! Looking preppy for school is definitely in. Boyfriend blazers are great to add to a casual hangout outfit or dressy dinner date ensemble. Ponte Knit Blazer from Forever 21 ($24.80)

3. Military Glam -- Mixing hardcore military jackets/vests with glamorous badges, patches, and pins is definitely in. It's a fabulous way to get the military look but still look like a Fashionista. Military Chic Vest by Twelve by Twelve of Forever 21 ($26.00)

4. Tall Boots (Over-The-Knee and Thigh High) -- Especially in black, these boots are sexy and sleek. Cole Haan 'Air Talia" Over the Knee Suede Stretch Boots from Nordstrom (Anniversary Sale: $299.90 After AS: $498.00)

5. Oversized Sweaters -- As the nights become colder during football season, you'll want something to keep you warm! Sometimes that huge letterman jacket is just too much. Sweaters are lightweight and like a portable and wearable blanket. Love by Design Dolman Sleeve Sweater from Nordstrom BP. (Anniversary Sale: $28.90 After AS: $44.00)

6. Boyfriend Watches -- Yes, they may look masculine, but they are oh so cute with the perfect fall outfit. You won't have any problem keeping up with the time! Titanium Boyfriend Watch from Nordstrom BP. (Anniversary Sale: $11.90 After AS: $18.00)

7. Banded Skirts -- This fall, we're moving away from the flowing skirts. Banded skirts are also amazing with voluminous tops. Lily White Printed Banded Skirt from Nordstrom BP. (Anniversary Sale: $17.90 After AS: $28.00)

8. Swingy Open-Front Cardigans -- With the extra volume around the neck and front of the sweaters/cardigans/vests, you won't have to worry about finding that scarf you misplaced. It's like a scarf built-in! Lush Dolman Sleeve Open Front Cardigan from Nordstrom BP. (Anniversary Sale: $24.90 After AS: $38.00)

9. Fedoras -- I wasn't too fond of fedoras a while back ago, but this season, I've found them to be quite the accessory. A fedora can help a simple outfit go a long way. Juicy Couture at Nordstrom ($68.00).

10. Crossbody Bags -- I hate going out and worrying about setting my purse down and losing it. When shopping, a purse is a girl's closest companion. It has your back whenever you need cash to buy that new item you've been dying to get in your wardrobe to when you're having a bad day on the girly side. My biggest thing with crossbody bags was that they were always small, but now they can be as big as your regular handbag! The purse below has the option of being your regular shoulder bag or a crossbody. Amici Crossbody Satchel from Nordstrom BP. (Anniversary Sale: $20.90 After AS: $32.00)

Working at one of the major malls in my city, I can't help but to notice the new fall fashions that came in the other day. Even more, I can't help but to buy some for myself! So today I figured I'd spread the word about what the trends are for fall 2010. Also, the majority of my examples have come from the arrivals for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. The prices are amazing and on August 2nd, the prices will go up to regular price -- I suggest everyone take advantage of this sale! Yesterday, after my shift, I snagged a few items for myself (from trends 6 and 10) and I love them! No doubt that I'll be going back for more this month!

Don't: Unsolicited Fashion Advice

About a year ago, I came home from an exhausting day of band practice -- two-a-days which consisted of both strenuous outdoor and indoor rehearsals. I was pooped! Of course being outside almost all day and being sweaty, I didn't want to wear my best clothes, so instead I wore more like work-out clothing (shorts, old tank, bra straps, TWE). When I got out of practice, my dad needed to make a quick run to our local B&N to meet a client so I came with. Boy, was that a mistake!

So I got there and picked up a small stack of fashion mags to browse through while we waited in the cafe. The woman walked in and found our table -- she looked nice. Faulty assumption on my part. My dad introduced us to each other...she asked me a few questions about myself like all adults do. In return I smiled politely. But then these words came out of her mouth:

"You know, I'm a bit of a fashion guru...and just a little tip, wear a BLACK bra." and she touched and pointed to the bright green strap from one of my workout bras.

At this point in the short-lived conversation we had, the polite smile melted off of my face as quickly as ice cream melts in summer heat. Everything else that she said after that comment, was a complete blur as I did not give a flip. I tried to keep the smile, but I was getting more and more ticked as I replayed that moment in my head. Little did she know that, I too, am a fashion guru with a blossoming education & career in the industry. And on top of that, I DIDN'T CARE! I was tempted to give her a piece of my mind, however, I had to remain polite -- bull.  After that, I quickly excused myself from the conversation which would have gotten extremely heated if I had chosen to stay and unwillingly soak up anymore of the "fashion guru's" tips.

But my point Fashionistas and Fashionistos, DO NOT GIVE UNSOLICITED ADVICE! I can't stress that any more than I already have. You'll be giving a mouthful of something they don't want to hear, and you'll be receiving a mouthful worse than what you gave. If you're a guru Fashionista, that's great, but ladies and gents, have some class.

Is this woman fashion crazy or just plain crazy?

I just got through reading one of the most interesting news articles in a long time -- it stunned me. We pay hundreds, if not, thousands for designer purses. But how important are they to us? Do they top our list of priorities over our very own safety? BBC reports, a woman dragged by a car due to the fact that she just wouldn't let go of her precious Louis Vuitton during an attempted robbery. Their news article title asks, "Is She Nuts?" My answer, "YES!" Luckily, the woman only suffered minor injuries. Oh and she got her Louis back, too! Crazy, right? Yeah, I think so too. Part of me can sympathize with this fashion crazy woman as, I too, am crazy about the art. But never could I risk my life for an accessory -- expensive or not.

FashionFixx on Youtube

Since I started FashionFixx, I've always had a YouTube account set aside for a possible vlogging opportunity. Now,seven weeks into the life of my blog, I think the account has collected enough dust -- it's time to start putting some videos up. So starting now, I'm going to be posting some videos about fashion on my YouTube account which will also be linked to the blog itself and the Facebook page. I the people who keep up with me so far will find my blogs and vlogs interesting enough to want to stay updated. I have ideas for possible shopping hauls, makeup tutorials, and other fun topics that must be covered to keep you entertained and informed with FashionFixx. I'm on the lookout for a new camera to use besides the one on my computer, so as soon as I can get a new one, the vlogs will be rolling in -- promise.

The Fragrance of Eccentricity

For the loyal fans of Betsey Johnson, we know that this eccentric young woman at heart does not make products for her customers that do not reflect her style. She does not conform to the usual formula of the fashion industry and she's very knowledgeable on how the marketing and merchandising works and seems to take some of those decisions into her own hands. This is what makes me so loyal to not only her line, but to Betsey Johnson as a person. WWD Magazine wrote today that Johnson is coming out with a new fragrance which is intended to revive her 1982 fragrance. She currently has an agreement with a New York company -- Inter Parfums Inc. that will run into December of 2015.

Inter Parfums Inc. is a fragrance and personal items company. Yes, that does include cosmetics! So there is a possibility that Betsey Johnson will come out with a designer cosmetics line of her own. The fragrance is scheduled to hit the 66 Betsey Johnson boutiques as soon as next month! It will be an inexpensive way to get in touch with the designer brand. It has not yet been stated what scents the perfume will have, but I imagine it will reflect the designer's personality greatly -- a fragrance of eccentricity.

Summer, Sun, and Sandals

This time, I was not the one to discover cute new shoes -- it was my mom. Thanks, Mom! Luckily, we somewhat have the same taste when it comes to fashion; I'm thankful for that. Miss Trish of Capri is a top shoe brand with a style very similar to Lily Pulitzer (which can price from 180 to 250 dollars). Pictures above show a pair of Miss Trish of Capri sandals on top and Lily Pulitzer sandals on bottom.

Like many big time brands, Miss Trish of Capri has teamed up with Target to design an exclusive limited-time only line. Usually, the sandals run from about 60 to 80 dollars on up, but for Target, the price is an affordable 25 dollars! I couldn't believe it! I saw these shoes for the first time and I just knew a pair would, without a doubt, be coming home with me. This particular shoe is extremely limited in size and quantity due to it's uber cuteness...I'm so not kidding. I'd have to say, these are some of the best shoes I've bought from Target. I admire how the flowers on each shoe are different. One has a bumble bee on a rhinestoned flower center while the other does not -- a little bit of an asymmetrical design. Miss Trish of Capri even designed sandals for little girls in the exclusive Target collection (priced at around 16 dollars). So even they can still be fashionable for the summer just like the big girls! It's a summer must-have for any fashionista. You'll most certainly see me around sporting mine this summer!

Filling Your Fix,

Jae
